Sarah Jones

I like the composition of her images and the fact that she used dance as an inspiration.

Alex Prager

Her works resembles movie stills. Very colourful shots, taken from unexpected angles. The lights makes the images look very dramatic and that's probably why her work resembles movie stills. I noticed that she focuses on the face of the subjects to show intense emotion.

Gregory Crewdson

Gregory Crewdson is one of my favourites when it comes to staged photography and creating scenarios. His work is brilliant and how he composes all the images is amazing. The last 2 images are my favourites. I have seen the behind the scenes for the last image and it is amazing to see how he thinks and then how he puts that in practice and of course the result which is great. There is a lot of time involved and a big crew. There is something peaceful about the images and at the same time if you watch the behind the scenes you will notice a lot of buzz and action. Nevertheless, the results are different and you wouldn't expect to see that silence when you watch the video. Love his work!!

Philip Lorca DiCorcia

I like this project very much because of the way everything is staged. You would be intended to say that they are natural because they look natural in a way but then you realize that it is quite hard to find what he photographs. If you look closer you notice that they are all staged but they are done beautifully. How he uses flash to evidence certain things is amazing and that's why I always liked this project. I also love the angles of the images as most of the photos are taken from the side as in the first 3 images. Great work!

Adi Ness

The Village is a great project of Adi Ness. I like the first image with the turkey. The way he holds the turkey and the distance is important and very explicit. Also, I can see that his eyes are half open which adds more substance to the image. I can see tension in his left arm. I do like all the other images as well and I believe they are representative for the village. He has done a very good job portraying his village. going back to his childhood!!

Jeff Wall

I am going to start with this image by Jeff Wall as it is my favourite.  The first thing that I want to mention is that I believe his work is done backwards if that makes sense. Usually, images have a story behind but I believe that his photos don't. they are just taken in a chosen moment, they are staged.

This one in particular is amazing. We see this black man with his back facing the camera and the ceilling above his head is full of light bulbs plus other bits and bobs around his room. It is chaotic and cluttered. Everything is cramped in that small room. Somehow, I believe that the fact that his back is facing the camera is connected to the fact that his room is illuminated by lots of light bulbs. Maybe it's about showing his face because he is hiding from the camera, he is working on something and the light is just showing his face without being interrupted. I do like it!!!

The second image is about solitude again and loneliness. I thing Wall manages to construct that scene very well and makes you connect with the subject's state. The chairs are positioned very odd, the angle is very weird, the cabinets are open, there is salt on the table and an ashtray, we see crumpled brown paper on top of the fridge. There is evidence of action and movement but at the same time there is the man under the table he looks ruined, exhausted. The composition of the image is very good and it makes you stay connected with the image.

Great work by Jeff Wall!!!

Anoush Abrar

His project Real Dolls is quite controversial. He creates dolls but what I like about his work is that he manages to give them like a human feeling. At a first glance, you are intended to say that they are real models but in fact they are just plastic dolls. Also, what is very interesting is the fact that the dolls "pose" like a normal model so I suppose that is what misleads you from the truth.

They even have make up on and yes they look like proper model but I believe that the thing that brings you back and makes you say"Hold on! There is something wrong here!" is the fact that their supposed skin is shiny and with a real model no matter how much body oil you use it won't give you that effect.

I do like this one and to be honest that was the first one that I saw and made me think that it is a real model. The light is amazing and gives a really nice shade to the skin.

I think this is a good project and is worth looking at!!!

Ej Major

I  was interested in her project right from the beginning. It is quite unusual to develop an interest in an unknown woman who appeared in a magazine and who was an addict. She is brave for  using herself as the victim as being addicted to drugs is a very important matter and not a lot of artists would want to be related to that. Also, she managed to portray herself through all the stages and the make up did its job but she's also got skills to act which is brilliant.

Gillian Wearing

Her work is interesting especially her project with the masks. The images look quite natural so that's why it might be a bit hard to realize that it's her in the photo but she's wearing a mask.

Hiding from problems of society is a big issue and I believe she managed to deliver a very good work. Hiding behind something is like a natural reaction from getting away from fear so she probably wanted to express that. I am very impressed with her engagement as it takes a lot of time to put together the scenario and if the original  pictures were taken in 10 seconds she  has to stay for hours in order to have the perfect shot.

- The British Cindy Sherman - as many say

I wasn't sure if I should post these images... a lot of emotion coming from them. It is so overwhelming how she frames her disease and how she explores her condition. It's like a contrast between her physical appearance and her mental state. She is portraying her battle with the cancer in a heroic way. She is not giving up. How overwhelming...

Looking at this series can make you feel  quite uncomfortable. I feel like it's her intimacy and I should not look at them but at the same time the images are exposed for us, the viewers.

Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman is a very important figure in photography. I remember I was presented her in my first year in my Visual Research module and right from the beginning I knew there was something about her.

I am interested in seeing how she explored and then portrayed the contemporary women' identity. I believe that she is a complete and very complex photographer because she takes on various roles when she's doing her photographs from being the photographer to being a model, make-up artist, hairdresser etc. which I believe is very beneficial as that might give the artist more liberty in expressing his/her ideas.

I love how she manages to invent different personas to examine how identity is constructed and at the same time represented. I think that her series of images are very coherent. I also like the simplictity of the background which makes the personas stand out.
